2016 finds us mired deep in the editing and writing of the second and third books in our science fiction New Mother Earth Series as well as work on our manuscript for The Ocular. Series writing presents its own set of problems. Some of those problems are of our own devising.
When we started with The New Mother Earth series, we introduced a complicated plot with multiple intertwined character arcs and we left quite a few of those hanging unresolved at the end of the first book, Exiles of Gaia. The second book, Hunters of Gaia, is now in its first round of edits. With the second book, we are finding that there is a much greater need for continuity, of details, character names and personalities, plot lines, the list goes on. It slows the process greatly because we are constantly forced to cross check every little detail. It was a lot of fun creating our world but maintaining its integrity is a bit of a pain in the rear end. One thing in our favor is that we keep a list of characters and chapter maps for each book. We only wish we had kept up with our New Mother Earth reference manual a bit more. We shall have to remember that for future endeavors.
As for now, we continue to add new material to The Ocular, edits continue on Hunters, and we have started on the third book, Servants of Gaia. Servants will finish up the trilogy but not the world of SkyWeb. We will also be doing our taxes this week and crafting a synopsis for Hunters. As for our continuity problem, hopefully, our awesome beta reader will catch our most egregious errors.
March went out like a lamb, at least where we are. Enjoy the Spring weather!
Kind regards,
Anne, Nancy, and Eric
